System Reimagining
Designing a Better Transit Network for Houston

The METRO Transit System Remimagining project is a transformative redesign of the Houston region's transit system. This was METRO's first comprehensive analysis of the local bus system in decades. The resulting 5-year service plan aligned local bus service with regional travel and development patterns, integrated the bus network with three new rail lines, and greatly increased ridership.

In addition to the technical aspects of redesigning the network, the System Reimagining project placed a strong emphasis on user experience, engagement, and creating a positive perception of transit in Houston.  New system maps and signage were designed to emphasized the frequency and reliability of the new network. The project also included a guidebook on transit oriented development that targeted local developers and specifically addressed the Houston context.
